Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how PeopleList ("we"), which operates PeopleList at peoplelist.in, collects and uses personal data. We process personal data in line with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and its rules, as they apply.

1. Data we collect

• Business listings: business name, owner or contact name, phone and WhatsApp numbers, email, address, registration numbers (such as GST, ICAI, RERA or Udyam), photos, logo and descriptions submitted by the business.
• Verification documents: documents and photos a business sends us on WhatsApp or email to verify ownership, such as registration certificates, a shop photo or a photo ID.
• Business logins: mobile number, email, an encrypted password, login activity and messages exchanged with us.
• Enquiries: your name, mobile number, optional email and message when you contact a business through the Platform.
• Reviews: your name (shown publicly), mobile number (never shown publicly) and review text.
• Contact and grievance forms: the details you enter.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, pages visited and clicks on call or WhatsApp buttons, used for security, spam prevention and statistics.

2. Why we use it

• To publish listings and show business contact details to visitors. Business owners choose to make these details public by listing.
• To verify that a person is authorised to list a business, and to check registrations.
• To pass your enquiry to the business you contacted.
• When you use “Get free quotes”, to send your request, name and phone number to up to 3 businesses that offer the service in your city, as you agree on that form.
• When you request an appointment, to send your request to that business.
• To check reviews and prevent fake reviews, spam and fraud.
• To give business owners statistics such as views, calls and enquiries.
• To reply to your messages and complaints, and to meet legal obligations.

We use your data on the basis of your consent, which you give when you submit a form, and for other lawful purposes allowed by law. You can withdraw your consent at any time (see section 6). Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already took place.

3. Sharing

• Details in a published business listing are public.
• Your enquiry, quote request or appointment request is shared only with the business or businesses it was sent to. Each business is responsible for how it uses your details. We never sell your phone number.
• We use service providers to run the Platform, such as our web hosting provider, and, if enabled, Google Analytics and Google AdSense.
• We may disclose data when required by law, a court order or a lawful request from a government authority, or to protect our rights and users' safety.
• We do not sell personal data.

4. Verification documents

Verification documents are used only to verify the business and its owner. They are never shown on the Platform. We delete them within 30 days of completing verification, keeping only a note of what was checked and when.

5. Cookies and advertising

We use essential cookies to keep forms secure, keep business owners logged in and remember your chosen city. If advertising is enabled, Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can manage personalised ads at Google's Ad Settings, and you can block cookies in your browser settings.

6. Your rights

You can ask us to give you a summary of your personal data, correct or update it, erase it, or withdraw your consent. You can also nominate another person to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to. Business owners can also request changes or removal of their listing through the Update my listing page or their business login. Send requests to our Grievance Officer (details below). We may need to confirm your identity first.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India once it is accepting complaints.

7. How long we keep data

• Listings: while the listing is active, and up to 12 months after removal.
• Verification documents: up to 30 days after verification.
• Enquiries, reviews and messages: up to 24 months, unless a review remains published.
• Technical and security logs: up to 6 months.

We may keep some data longer where the law requires it or to deal with a dispute.

8. Security

We protect data with reasonable security practices: passwords are stored encrypted, admin access is restricted and protected, uploaded images are re-processed to remove hidden data, and the website is served over a secure connection. No system is completely secure. If a personal data breach occurs, we will inform affected people and authorities as required by law.

9. Children

The Platform is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes

We may update this policy. The date of the latest update is shown on this page.
