Terms of Use
Last updated: 15 Oct 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") apply to everyone who uses PeopleList at peoplelist.in (the "Platform"), including visitors, people who write reviews or send enquiries, and businesses that list on the Platform. The Platform is operated by PeopleList ("we", "us", "our"). By using the Platform, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
1. What the Platform is
The Platform is an online directory. Businesses and professionals create and maintain their own listings. Visitors can search listings, contact businesses directly, send enquiries and write reviews. We act as an intermediary under the Information Technology Act, 2000 for information provided by businesses and users.
We do not provide, sell, arrange, supervise or guarantee any service listed on the Platform. We are not an agent of any business, and we are not a party to any agreement, quotation, payment or dispute between you and a business.
2. Information on listings
- All listing details are provided by the business owner, including the business name, services, prices, photos, experience, working hours, address and contact details. The business is solely responsible for that information being true, complete, current and lawful.
- Our review of a listing before publishing, as explained on How Listings Work, is not a guarantee, certificate, licence, recommendation or endorsement of the business.
- We do not verify, and are not responsible for, the information on any listing.
- Search order, Premium, featured and sponsored placements are not a ranking of quality. Paid placements are labelled "Premium" or "Sponsored".
3. Your dealings with businesses
Any decision to contact, hire or pay a business is yours alone. You should make your own enquiries before hiring or paying anyone, including checking licences and registrations on official websites, getting a written quote and invoice, and not paying the full amount in advance. Any complaint about a business's work, price, delay, damage or conduct must be raised with that business, or with the appropriate consumer forum or authority.
4. Business listings and business logins
- Only the owner, or a person authorised by the owner, may list a business. By submitting a listing, you confirm that you are authorised and that all information and photos you submit are true, lawful and yours to share.
- You must keep your listing up to date and inform us of any change, including cancellation of a GST, ICAI, RERA or other registration.
- We review every listing and every change before it goes live. We may reject, edit for format or clarity, suspend or remove any listing at our discretion, including when we receive a complaint or cannot verify information.
- We give a business login only after we verify the owner. You are responsible for keeping your login details safe and for all activity under your login. Tell us immediately if you suspect misuse.
- Basic listing is free. Paid plans (Premium) give extra visibility and a "Premium" label for the period purchased. They do not influence reviews and are not an endorsement.
- Premium plans may include a small business website hosted on PeopleList (at peoplelist.in/b/your-business/). All text, prices, offers and photos on it are provided by the business, which is solely responsible for them. We host it as an intermediary, review it for obvious problems before it goes live, and may edit, suspend or remove it. It is switched off when the plan ends.
- Businesses that receive quote requests or appointment requests through PeopleList must use the customer's details only to respond to that request, and must not add them to marketing lists or share them. Lead credits are charged per request sent and are not refundable once a request is delivered, unless the request is clearly fake.
- Offers, prices, catalogue items, updates and videos added by a business are its own responsibility. They must be true, lawful and available as described.
- Some professions, such as chartered accountants and architects, are shown as plain listings only, without paid placement, reviews or a business website, because their professional rules restrict advertising.
- You must hold and maintain all registrations, licences and permissions required by law for your business, including RERA registration for real estate agents, FSSAI registration for food businesses and caterers, a licence for pest control, an RTO licence for driving schools, registration with the State Animal Welfare Board for pet shops, Council of Architecture registration for architects and ICAI membership for chartered accountants.
5. Reviews
- Reviews must describe your own genuine experience with the business. Reviews are the personal opinions of the people who write them, not ours.
- We check reviews against our Listing & Review Policy before publishing them. We publish or reject reviews; we do not rewrite them.
- Businesses may post one public reply to a review, which is also checked before publishing. Businesses cannot pay to remove a review.
6. What you must not do
You must not: post false, misleading, defamatory, obscene, hateful or unlawful content; impersonate any person or business; list a business you are not authorised to list; post fake or paid reviews, or reviews about your own business or a competitor; upload content you do not have rights to; collect or copy data from the Platform in bulk or by automated means; send spam or unrelated messages through enquiry forms; or try to interfere with the security or working of the Platform. We may remove content and block access for any breach.
7. Content licence
You keep ownership of content you submit. You give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, display, format and share it on the Platform and in promotion of the Platform, for as long as it remains on the Platform and for a reasonable period after removal for backups. Our design, articles and software belong to us and may not be copied without permission.
8. No warranty
The Platform and all information on it are provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we make no promise that information on the Platform is accurate, complete or current, that any business is suitable for your needs, or that the Platform will always be available or free of errors. Guides and articles are general information only and are not legal, tax, financial or technical advice.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from information provided by businesses or users, from your dealings with any business, or from your reliance on any listing, label, review or article.
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, business, data or goodwill.
- Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Platform is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or ₹1,000 if you paid us nothing.
Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under Indian law.
10. Indemnity
If you list a business or submit any content, you agree to compensate and protect us, and the people who work with us, against any claim, loss, penalty or cost (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your listing or content, your services to any customer, or your breach of these Terms or of any law.
11. Removal of content and complaints
If you believe any content on the Platform is unlawful, false, infringes your rights or concerns you, write to our Grievance Officer as described on the Grievance page. We act on complaints, court orders and lawful government directions as required by the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
12. Suspension and changes
We may suspend or stop any part of the Platform, or any user's or business's access, at any time. We may update these Terms. The date of the latest update is shown on this page, and continued use of the Platform means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Law and courts
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Subject to any rights you have under consumer protection law, the competent courts at the place where PeopleList is located in India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute relating to these Terms or the Platform.
